THE MODEL
In 1978, architect Richard Harvey was commissioned to build a miniature model of downtown Jerusalem.
The model was installed on the lower floor of Jerusalem City Hall, and its space became a gathering center for the city’s architects. In 2006, Harvey passed away, and the person who continued to maintain and build the model was his right-hand assistant, Natalia.
“The Model” is a performative tour within the space of the city model, focusing on Natalia Ostrovsky, who has been maintaining the model for twenty-eight years.
During the tour, Mendelson introduces Natalia, who “doesn’t like speaking in front of an audience,” while Natalia reenacts acts of preservation and cleaning that she has performed on the model over the years. At the same time, she departs from routine actions, placing herself within the model in a new and exposed way.
